Ahhhh........... delicious Maca the fertility wonder food! Not familiar with Maca? This once unknown root to current western civilization is just beginning to gain popularity as a superfood here in America. Maca root is a cruciferous like vegetable grown in the Andes in Peru. For decades the Peruvian people have been using Maca for endurance, stamina, energy, vitality, and fertility.

Maca is revered as a superfood for its ability to have an effect on the hormones without containing any hormones of its own. Maca contains 31 vitamins and over 60 phytonutrients that help to balance and regulate the pituitary, thyroid, and adrenal glands which are all part of the endocrine system, a vital part of fertility regulation. Maca contains special alkaloids that are shown through research to have a positive affect on both male and female fertility.

The benefits of Maca include:

  • Adaptagenic ability to regulate hormone function
  • Increase stamina
  • Decrease PMS and menopausal symptoms
  • Sustained endurance
  • Normal sexual function
  • Increase Libido
  • Stimulate and nourish hypothalamus

How Maca is used:

Maca Can be found in health food stores or online as either a powder, tincture, or capsules. I prefer the powder as it is one less supplement that is needed to take and can be taken as a food source with other fertility enhancing foods. The recommended dosage is 2000-3000 mg daily. Maca must be used on a daily basis over time to get best results. Do not expect instant results with this.

It is recommended that you start with a small does and increase as body tolerates. There are no side effects associated with Maca but I have had occassional clients experience stomach discomfort taking large doses before their body has adapted to it. My recommendation is to always start with about a half teaspoon to see how well you tolerate and then increase by half a teaspoon every few days until you reach your desired amount.

Maca has an almost banana or butterscotch flavor to it and combines well with many things. I have some clients who make a warm beverage out of heating the maca with almond milk and making almost hot chocolate like beverage. Others prefer to mix in oatmeal or a smoothie for best taste.

Smoothie Recipe:

10-12 ounces unsweetened almond milk

1 frozen banana

2 Teaspoons Hemp Seeds

1 Tablespoon Chia Seeds

2 Teaspoons Maca Powder

1 Tablespoon raw organic cacao powder

2 Tablespoons organic almond butter or other preferred nut butter

Large Handful spinach leaves

Give Maca a try! However you like it, it is a wonderful addition to any nutritional fertility program.

As always..........In Good Health and Happiness,

Brandy Augustine
